Reading the layout
The divisor sits outside the bracket, the dividend inside, and the quotient builds up along the top. Below the dividend you see the running work: each product written under the current working number, a line drawn, the difference written beneath, and the next digit brought down beside it.

Remainder or decimals?
Both are correct answers to “what is left over?”. Whole-number work stops at the remainder: 527 ÷ 4 = 131 remainder 3. Decimal work appends zeros after the point and keeps the cycle going — 131.75 exactly in this case.
