Frequently asked questions

How do you convert an hourly wage to a salary?
Multiply the hourly rate by the hours worked in a week, then by the number of paid weeks. At 40 hours across 52 weeks that is 2,080 hours a year, so $25 an hour is exactly $52,000. The mental shortcut is to double the rate and add three zeros: $30 an hour is about $60,000.
Should I use 52 weeks if I do not get paid time off?
No. If your holiday and vacation are unpaid, count only the weeks you actually work. Two unpaid weeks turns 52 into 50 and cuts the annual figure by about 4% — which is exactly the comparison to make when weighing an hourly job against a salaried offer with paid leave.
Does overtime change the annual figure?
Substantially. Hours past 40 in a week are generally paid at time and a half, so ten overtime hours a week adds 37.5% to gross pay, not 25%. Each rate page shows the overtime figure alongside the standard one.
Is the annual figure before or after tax?
The headline conversion is gross. Every rate page also shows estimated 2026 take-home across a dozen representative states, since state income tax alone can move the net figure by several thousand dollars a year.
