How do you read a times table chart?

Find one number in the top row and the other in the left column, then follow them down and across — the cell where they meet is the product. 7 across and 8 down meet at 56.

What is the focus mode for?

It highlights one times table at a time — the 7s, say — so you can learn it in isolation before facing the full grid. The rest of the chart fades back until you are ready for it.

Why does the chart look the same above and below the diagonal?

Because 7 × 8 = 8 × 7. Multiplication is commutative, so the chart mirrors itself along the diagonal — learning half of it gets you the other half for free.

When should a child learn the times tables?

Most curricula expect the 2s, 5s and 10s by age 6–7, most tables by age 8–9, and everything through 12 × 12 by age 10–11. Little and often beats long cramming sessions.
